TERRIBLE THINGS BREAK ONE MILLION MYSPACE PLAYS
As out of the proverbial ashes of their former groups, the TERRIBLE THINGS debut rises from the conceptual theme born near Freds hometown of Coatesville, PA where a rash of arson fires terrorized the town, making an impression that surprisingly affects him to this day. I was just struck by the helplessness, says Fred. Growing up there I remember the decay, but this was such a mindless thing, symptomatic maybe, of pure hopelessness.
Ironically, or perhaps serendipitously, the TERRIBLE THINGS debut album was recorded in fellow past-due steel-town Birmingham, AL with producer Jason Elgin. To record down there meant no distractions, says Fred. We were totally engaged in the music and (able to) get into a different head space.
With the album slated for late summer, the band will soon follow the platinum-play MySpace success of demo The Hills of Birmingham with its first official single Revolution. The song, which goes to radio in June, addresses the themes of fear and alienation, with such lyrical offerings as This is not a revolution til we say it is it seems we only want what we dont have...
In the meantime, TERRIBLE THINGS has kept busy this spring. They finished up recording in Birmingham at the end of February, just in time to hit Austin, TX to introduce their line-up and new sound at the esteemed SXSW music fest. In mid-April, TERRIBLE THINGS helped celebrate Record Store Day by releasing a FREE 2-track 7" vinyl record and with a live acoustic performance by Fred at Main Street Music in Philadelphia, PA.
To thank fans for their support thus far, TERRIBLE THINGS will hit the road with Anberlin and Story of the Year in May followed by select dates on the Vans Warped Tour this summer.
