THRESHOLD – new digital releases coming soon!

British progressive metal kings THRESHOLD will release a brand new digital single of the MUSE cover “Supermassive Black Hole” this, Friday, Monday Feb 1st 2010!

Commented Richard West: “”Supermassive Black Hole” was such a huge hit for MUSE, it's become a modern classic and it's still in the top ten of the UK rock charts after 150 weeks..! I hope MUSE enjoy THRESHOLD's reworking of their song, we've stayed fairly true to the original but with some added THRESHOLD heaviness.”

The band will also re-issue their latest effort “Dead Reckoning” including instrumental versions of all songs of the album as a bonus – the digital release of the package is scheduled for mid February! Keep your caps peeled!!

West states: “We often get requests from fans wanting access to instrumental versions of our songs, so after seeing bands like NIGHTWISH and MASTODON release extended versions of their albums with instrumentals included, it seemed logical for THRESHOLD to do the same with “Dead Reckoning”. So whether they're being used for karaoke competitions, holiday video soundtracks or just for singing along in the shower, we're happy to make them available.” | |

With a line up already boasting some of the top names in metal, including CHILDREN OF BODOM, FEAR FACTORY, BEHEMOTH, and DEVIN TOWNSEND, the latest addition to the BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR 2010 line up further solidifies an already amazing cast. Finnish melodic metal masters SONATA ARCTICA will be making their only UK festival appearance of 2010 at this year’s 10th Anniversary of BLOODSTOCK. Says keyboardist Henrik “Henkka” Klingenberg:

“Bloodstock is one of the best festivals we've played at in Britain. I can't wait to hit the stage once again as well as check out some of the other bands on this years killer line-up”

Having consistently topped the charts in their homeland throughout their career, last year’s “Days Of Grays” album was rapturously received by the UK, seeing the band shake off their cult status in this country and selling out London’s Islington Academy, causing the UK Rock press to take notice. With powerful and perfectly executed live shows, their set at this year’s BLOODSTOCK will be a treat for any true fan of metal, and one we look forward to immensely.

The BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR METAL FESTIVAL 2010 will take place at Catton Hall, Derbyshire from 13th – 15th August.

Thousands of rock fans have already promised to convert to the UK’s latest faith, as they join a fast-growing internet campaign to see Heavy Metal recognised as a religion in the 2011 census.

Following an internet campaign before the 2001 census, 390,000 UK residents listed Jedi – the fictional Star Wars creed as their religion, making it the UK’s fourth largest. Now, Heavy Metal enthusiasts are looking to follow the trailblazing Jedi’s into the 2011 census.

Whilst the Office of National Statistics pointed out that Jedi’s inclusion in census results did not mean official recognition, it was given its own census code and sat alongside Church of England, Roman Catholic, Muslim, Buddhist and Hindu as a religion.

Despite kicking off less than a week ago, the campaign launched by Metal Hammer – the UK’s best-selling Heavy Metal magazine – has already attracted nearly 10,000 followers to its Facebook group. As interest continues to grow with press enquiries from across the globe, high profile supporters are coming forward to back the campaign. Biff Byford, the legendary Saxon frontman was first to show support and will become Heavy Metal’s “World Metal Peace Ambassador” if the campaign proves successful.

Heavy Metal was born 40 years ago, when Birmingham band Black Sabbath released their self-titled debut album. The scene developed, with the release followed by bands like Judas Priest, Saxon, Motorhead and the almighty Brit Award winners Iron Maiden. Creating a genre of music, a community and a way of life, Heavy Metal is amongst the UK’s most significant cultural exports of the 20th century.

2009 was a highly significant year for the genre, with new annual metal festival Sonisphere coming to Knebworth Park and winning “Best New Festival” at the UK Festival awards, and US Rap-Metal band Rage Against The Machine’s “Killing In The Name Of” taking Xmas Number One, the most prestigious chart position in the UK’s music calendar.

Now, with metal bands like Iron Maiden (who headline this year’s Sonsiphere festival) and US favourites Metallica playing to sold-out stadiums across the world it has become a global phenomenon for millions of fans.

Alexander Milas, Editor of Metal Hammer said:

“Like a lot of good ideas, this one came about in a pub and the response online has been overwhelming. It only reinforces the belief that Heavy Metal remains strong in its UK birthplace and across the globe. If the Jedi can do it, then we can too. Our only requirement to join our campaign is that you listen to heavy metal, our commandment: everything louder than everyone else.”

ELUVEITIE – new song posted online!

Swiss folk metal superstars ELUVEITIE just posted another new song off their highly anticipated new album “Everything Remains (As It Never Was)”!

Check out “Kingdom Come Undone” at the bands official MySpace:

Commented bandleader Chrigel Glanzmann: “Here comes the second song off our upcoming album we'd like to present you: “Kingdom come undone“! One of our harsher tracks, where juggernautish riffs meet with onrushing folk melodies. And exactly the same furious character also lies in the lyrics. The song deals with Vercingetorix, a gaulish freedom fighter who lived in the time of the gaulish war. His endeavor was to unite the gaulish clans. The song presents you a passionate speech, like he probably could have held it in front of assembled gaulish chieftains.
In that sense: This is V… for Vercingetorix! ;)“

Also check out the video clip for „Thousandfold“ at:

“Everything Remains (As It Never Was)“ will be released on February 22, 2010!

SOILWORK – reveal new album title!

Swedish modern metal godfathers SOILWORK just issued the following new update:

“What up people? After a long but intense absence, I'm back giving you a little report on what's going on in the SOILWORK camp. We have just wrapped up the last songs on the new record and I have a constant smile on my face. The title of the new album will be “THE PANIC BROADCAST”.
I'm so stoked to record this new album and I feel it's gonna be quite a challenge for everybody in the band. So how's it sounding? Here's my personal take: I feel it's bigger than life to use an old cliché, but seriously, if any of you for some reason have missed some of that intricate riffing that made SOILWORK unique, won't have to wait very long. I feel this record is very playful and we're not cutting down on anything, no “is this too much information” -consideration, no “less is more”, just pure musical joy with no boundaries, THAT'S to me what it's all about. Obviously there's gonna be some surprises like always but giving every member of this band the freedom to go apeshit, will make this record a heavy and naturally catchy one. More solos? -Check, Insane riffing?-Check, Melodic vocals?-Check, Screamy vocals?-Check, Progressive keyboards?-Check, Best metal drummer in the world?-Check, will Flink dance while recording his bass tracks, like they were nothing?-Check. Drums are being recorded in Asheville NC, since past saturday. Keep your eyes open for an online studio report, join us and watch every step of the new album taking form! “THE PANIC BROADCAST” IS UPON US!
Cheers / Speed” | |

ARSIS – “Forced To Rock” video online!

Virginia based melodic tech death metal masters ARSIS just posted the brand new video clip for the song “Forced To Rock” which is taken from their upcoming record “Starve For The Devil”!

Commented mainman James Malone: “I don't think I have the vocabulary to properly express how excited I am for the video clip “Forced to Rock” to be unleashed upon an expecting metal community. The video was shot in sub-zero temperatures and we were truly suffering the entire time, but I guess all great art comes from suffering. I would like to give Kim Dylla (vocalist of the band THISMEANSYOU,, the biggest thank you ever for her participation in our video and for forcing us to rock. The video shoot was something I will never forget.”

“Starve For The Devil” is set to be unleashed on February 8, 2010 via Nuclear Blast Records.

So stick your tongue in your cheek, check out the clip and feel the force of rock:|

With vocalist/bassist Tom Araya now on the right track to recovery, Slayer announces the rescheduling of its UK concert trek. The dates will kick off on May 26 at the 02 Academy in Leeds, with the band playing seven headline shows, ending with two in London. All tickets for the original shows are valid, and The Haunted will remain as main support on all dates.

The original-scheduled dates had to be put on hold due to Araya's ongoing treatment for what was diagnosed as a Cervical Radiculopathy, an occupational hazard for the rocker who is known for aggressively swinging his long mane of hair while performing. Originally, Araya opted for a series of minimally-invasive procedures, and while they resulted in some improvement, they didn't entirely remedy the severe pain, numbness or muscle spasms that Araya continued to experience. Consequently, Araya made the difficult decision to undergo a surgical procedure, called an Anterior Cervical Discectomy with Fusion, a relatively routine practice with an excellent recovery rate.

“I think that his just making the decision to have the surgery has helped improve the way he feels,” said long-time Slayer manager Rick Sales. “While no one wants to go under the knife, his doctors are very confident about this procedure taking care of the problem once and for all.”

The new UK schedule is as follows:

May 2010
26th Leeds O2 Academy 0844 477 2000
27th Glasgow Barrowland 0871 230 7131
29th Birmingham O2 Academy 0844 477 2000
30th Manchester O2 Academy 0161 832 1111
31st Nottingham Rock City 0871 3100 000

June 2010
2nd London HMV Forum 0844 847 2405
3rd London HMV Forum 0844 847 2405

Tickets also available from 0871 230 5595, and usual outlets
